Falling for nonprofit tech

fall-autumn-red-season.jpgFall is in the air (again? Really?) and it’s time to start thinking about what’s next for your nonprofit. Will you be maintaining a goal that you established earlier this year? Focusing on implementing a new donor relations strategy? Implementing new technology? Autumn is a great time to reevaluate and bring to life the things that you’ve been dreaming about for your organization since the first day.

If that thing is new technology, we’re here to tell you that there’s no time like the present to make your nonprofit technology dreams a reality! If you’re hoping that this is your year to introduce new software to your organization, here are some tips to make your colleagues and volunteers feel as confident as you do about the decision to explore technology options.

  • Compare, compare, compare: Maybe you’re really familiar with one software vendor, or your friend recommended a vendor that they’ve used in the past – you can’t have a one-track mind when it comes to choosing new tech! Look at testimonials from many different vendors, watch a variety of demos and explore the many options that are out there.
  • Give it a try: Try before you buy. Ask for a test system so that you can play around with it with your own data on your own computer. By trying it out the technology, you can experience first-hand whether or not it’s a good fit for your organization, or whether you need to keep your options open.
  • Show your passion: When you’re passionate about something, it shines through and it makes others just as excited as you are. So show your colleagues and executives how stoked you are for this new-and-improved technology and the benefits it can offer the organization. Your passion will surely wear off on them.
